Tom Dickson

Tom Dickson was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1947.  He began painting at an early age under the tutelage of his father, an accomplished painter.  In the late 1960’s, Mr. Dickson studied at the Ontario College of Art.  During the ‘70’s, he painted the wilds of Ontario, where he honed his skills as both an oil painter and a watercolorist.  By the end of the decade, Mr. Dickson had moved to the east coast of Canada where his work was successfully represented for many years by two prestigious galleries in Halifax, Nova Scotia - Zwickers Gallery and Hollis Street Gallery.

By the 1980’s, Mr. Dickson was a successful and collectable artist, particularly well-known for his renditions of boats, harbor scenes, and city-scapes.  By the 1990’s, Mr. Dickson’s works were exhibited/represented across Canada, from Halifax to Vancouver and Victoria.  In 2005, Mr. Dickson was recognized and honored by the Scottsdale School of Art, Scottsdale, Arizona, which conferred upon him the honorary degree of Master Painter Mr. Dickson’s passion for Mexico, its people, history, culture, and color, began in the summer of 1967. Over the next 40-years, he returned as often as he could – making Mexico his part time residence since 1999, and eventually his permanent home in 2005.  After living in Loreto, Baja California Sur for several years, he moved to San Miguel de Allende in 2008.  Mr. Dickson and his wife and fellow painter, Donna Dickson, can often be seen working en plein air [on location], on the streets of San Miguel and in San Miguel’s beautiful surrounding countryside.
Art has always been the central focus of Mr. Dickson’s life and career.  His oil paintings are about capturing the light and presenting the unique cultural and colorful palette that Mexico so generously affords.  Mr. Dickson’s great and enduring gift, clearly obvious is his work, can certainly be judged as among the finest in this most demanding discipline.
Mr. Dickson’s works can be seen in collection in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Europe.  In Mexico, his work has been represented by Galeria Loreto in Baja California.   Galeria 19 is Mr. Dickson’s exclusive representative in San Miguel de Allende.  He is available for commissioned work.
