Donna Dickson

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1951.  She has studied under several renown, respected artists, most recently and significantly, famed Uruguayan watercolorist, Alvaro Castagnet, as well as American master of modern en plein air oils, Kevin Macpherson.  In addition to Mrs. Dickson’s assiduous pursuits as a student of the arts, she is also a teacher herself, having longstanding tenure teaching classes and workshops in oil and watercolor throughout Canada and Mexico.

Mrs. Dickson has a history with Mexico, particularly San Miguel de Allende, dating back to 1970.  Over the years, she has returned time and again to Mexico and to this enchanting colonial town. Following part time [1999] and full time residency [2005] in Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mrs. Dickson and her husband, distinguished painter Tom Dickson, moved to San Miguel in 2008. An avid en plein air [on location] painter, Mrs. Dickson can often be found painting on the streets of San Miguel or in the lovely countryside beyond.  She has a special fascination for the natural environment Mexico provides, with its uniquely adapted fauna and flora, rich color palette, and iconic light - which she expertly, almost serenely, transfers onto her canvases.  Mrs. Dickson feels very much at home in her adopted country and the profound tranquility Mexico offers her, both as a painter and as a person.
Mrs. Dickson’s colorful oils have a whimsical quality with a touch of the abstract – an engaging, inviting combination that compliments the subject matter perfectly.  Mrs. Dickson’s works can be seen in collections throughout Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. In Mexico, Mrs. Dickson has been represented by Galeria Loreto in Baja California.  Galeria 19 is Mrs. Dickson’s exclusive representative in San Miguel de Allende.  She is available for commissioned work.
