Lou Quallenberg

Born in 1956, Mr. Quallenberg grew up in New Jersey and has resided in Llano, Texas since 2002..

Mr. Quallenberg creates sculpted, live edge mesquite furniture in a clean, unique, contemporary style that reflects the flavor of the west. Following the curves that nature supplies, Mr. Quallenberg creates one of a kind pieces that call out to be touched. The natural cracks and crevices that give mesquite wood it's unique character are often inlaid with turquoise, bits of gold or small client supplied mementos, creating heirloom treasures for generations to come. Each piece is signed, photographed and cataloged in order to establish the provenance..

Mr. Quallenberg's works mainly with local Texas grown mesquite. The mesquite trees may be regularly cleared by Texas farmers and ranchers and Mr. Quallenberg is often approached by these landowners who have living trees that need to be removed. Respecting both the life and spirit of each tree, he will only take those large living trees that are scheduled to be removed. He knows the life history of the whole tree where each individual slab of wood in his inventory comes from.

Mr. Quallenberg makes a very conscious effort to be as environmentally friendly as possible reducing his carbon footprint when and where he can. The standard finish is a two week process using natural tung oil with a hand rubbed wax.

Mr. Quallenberg is available for private commissions.
